Week 4:   Material Selection

On Week 4, we were tasked to do the COWS Matrix on a milk bottle as out assignment. We then took into consideration on four different materials Metal, Silicone, Plastic and Glass. Upon completion of the COWS Matrix, we decided that Metal are the most suitable materials for a milk bottle.

The reason we chose these four criteria are:

 

  • For toxicity, we chose it so that the materials that are being used to make the milk bottle is non-toxic to ensure that the milk does not harm the consumer.

​

  • For cost, we wanted to chose the material that is cost effective. From the COWS Matrix, the most cost effective materials is tied between Metal and Glass.

​

  • For durability, we wanted to chose a material that will last long and will not break easily. From the COWS Matrix, the materials that is the most durable is Metal.

​

  • For transport, we chose a material that would withstand damage when being transported to prevent hassle for the consumer and producer.
